Our History

Dr. John David
July 24, 1938 - December 8, 1988 John-David, noted neuroscientist and founder of the John-David Learning Institute in Carlsbad, CA, was a playful genius who drew upon both the logical, linear, clarity and intelligence of his left brain and the intuitive, abstract, and creative vision of his right brain.

His work in sound and subliminal technology established a foundation upon which many have since built - developing models for the use of sound as a catalyst in accelerated learning, self-healing, and all levels of brain/mind expansion.

Using organic sound patterns and frequencies - including Tibetan bowls and natural, environmental sounds - he developed a unique library of 36 specific tones designed to stimulate the brain, expand the mind, and optimize brain/mind power.

As John-David explained it, these sounds and tones, when played at different frequencies, ‘speak' directly to the brain/mind, creating a bio-chemical response in the neurotransmitters of the brain. His case studies show that certain tones and frequencies impact and accelerate learning, eliminate self-sabotaging behaviors, and strengthen the body's immune system.

Drawing upon a blend of eastern wisdom and western high technology, along with proven techniques for changing behavior and re-educating the brain, he combined these elements to create what he called his Whole Brain Sound Technology.

Deborah DeBerry

Deborah DeBerry founded the Whole Brain Learning Institute (WBLI) in 1989 in order to fulfill the request of her mentor and friend, John-David. "When John-David asked me to come to San Diego in the mid-1980's, as a training consultant for his 5-Day Total Immersion Intensive seminar, I recognized right away that the sound and subliminal technology he was creating was absolutely the most powerful transformational tool I had ever experienced. People were having amazing breakthroughs on a lot of different levels - emotional, physical, and mental.

Since my background was in communication and behavioral studies, it was only natural for me to explore the impact of this new dimension of ‘accelerated' learning. I became his seminar co-trainer and began to work with him in developmental projects, such as the Whole Brain Reading™ audio & video series which was nearly completed at the time of his death. But, I never dreamed he would leave his entire life's work on sound and subliminal technology in my hands!

BrainSpeak® and all of our audio programs are my contribution to John-David's legacy. He was committed to mental excellence and brain/mind expansion. I share that commitment - and also believe that it's important to achieve balance in life.

Our programs and techniques help individuals regain harmony of mind, body and spirit. Just as during his lifetime, our work is yin and yang. A perfect balance. I think he'd be pleased."

Today. . .

Today, WBLI is in the capable hands of CEO Peter Julian, President Sallie Baugh and a team of world-class sound technologists, Grammy-nominated composers, behavioral scientists and consultants.

Future Goals

We are also in the process of creating and testing the NEXT GENERATION of sound patterns based on the "DNA" of John-David's masterpiece original sound library.
